TCP Viewer Changelog

This page lists the main user-facing changes in TCP Viewer. We recommend using the latest release for new features, fixes, and better capture performance.

1. Version 1.11.0​

1.1 New​

  • Added packet colors. Color choices are kept in exported TCP Viewer sessions.
  • Added comments for packets. Comments stay with saved, opened, and exported captures.
  • Added passive DNS names, including names learned from DNS over TCP.

1.2 Improved​

  • Explained more clearly that an MCP BPF filter changes which future packets are captured. It is different from filtering packets already in the app.

2. Version 1.10.0​

2.1 New​

  • Added TCP Viewer MCP for Codex, Claude Code, and other MCP clients.
  • Added tools to query and summarize packets, inspect protocol details, list interfaces and streams, export selections, reveal packets, and control live capture.
  • Added optional redaction of authorization headers, cookies, credentials, tokens, and other sensitive values before data is sent to an MCP client.

3. Version 1.9.0​

  • Added custom packet table columns created from inspector fields.
  • Added more ways to copy packet details and raw bytes.
  • Added copying for IP addresses in the sidebar.
  • Added toolbar shortcuts for packet actions.

4.2 Fixed​

  • Improved Helper Tool connection and error handling.
  • Fixed several packet-copy and Wireshark error cases.

5. Version 1.7.0​

  • Added a clearer Getting Started screen for choosing an interface and starting a capture.
  • Improved interface selection.
  • Fixed a launch crash on macOS 15.

6. Versions 1.6.0 and 1.6.1​

  • Added memory and traffic speed metrics to the bottom status bar.
  • Added TCP Viewer session (.tcpviewsession) export and import.
  • Improved production crash-report symbol checks.

  • Added Finder double-click and drag-and-drop support for .pcap and .pcapng files.

  • Added a bottom inspector layout as an alternative to the right inspector.
  • Added Copy All and subtree copy actions in packet details.

  • Added reusable structured filter presets.

  • Added live packet capture through the privileged Helper Tool.
  • Added PCAP and PCAPNG open and export workflows.
  • Added the AppKit packet table, source list, inspector, and hex view.
  • Added Wireshark-backed protocol details, quick filters, structured filters, saved packets, custom columns, and license activation.
